Judge C. Steven McMurry is committed to treating everyone
appearing in the Encanto Justice Court with equal respect and to applying the
law fairly to every case.   He is also committed to quality throughout the
Justice Courts of Maricopa County and Arizona.
Judge McMurry founded the first web site for the Justice Courts and led
the work of writing the Rules of Procedure for Eviction Actions.  His leadership efforts have included
developing and delivering many different educational classes for Judges and
others as well as serving as a respected mentor for Judges new to the bench.

 As a community
service, Judge McMurry has taken his DUI Sentencing Calendar into the High
Schools as an assembly to show students the consequences of driving under the
influence.  Judge McMurry hopes that this
experience will encourage these young adults to make good decisions in their
own lives.

Judge McMurry anticipates a revolution in court practices
over the next five years, as the Internet filing of pleadings becomes a
requirement and “virtual” hearings and trials become commonplace.  His chief concern is to assure that everyone is
included in this revolution and the pursuit of fairness and openness continues
as the courts modernize.

Judge McMurry was elected Justice of the Peace of the
Encanto Justice Precinct in 1998, after working for twenty years as an attorney
in private practice.  He is an honors
graduate of Rice University, and Arizona State University College of Law.  Judge McMurry is a third generation
Arizonan.  His grandparents homesteaded
in Central Arizona in the early 1900's and he grew up and graduated with honors
from Casa Grande High School.

Before Judge McMurry was elected to the bench, he served on
the boards of the Willo Neighborhood Association, Actors Theatre of Phoenix and
The Holiday Project (a national charity).
