Edward Ableser

Rep. Eddie Ableser was born and raised in Los Angeles, attended high school in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and received undergraduate degrees in political science and Chinese from ASU in 2000. He earned a Masters of Counseling degree in 2004 while working as an ASU instructor. Currently, he is working towards a doctoral degree in Justice and Social Inquiry at ASU. Rep. Ableser is engaged and very excited to marry and start a family with Ms. Hilary Heller this July.
Rep. Ableser has been a school-based mental health counselor since 2002, working with families and troubled youth in the south Phoenix corridor. He serves on the board of Kiwanis Club of Tempe, Childsplay, Communities in Schools and the Boys and Girls Club, as well as a member on the President’s Advisory Council for Rio Salado Community College. Rep. Ableser has served as an assistant pastor to the Exchange Tempe Community Church and a worship-service producer to the University Presbyterian Church.
In 2006, Rep. Ableser was appointed to serve as State Senator for the remainder of Congressman Harry Mitchell’s term. He was re-elected to serve as State Representative in 2008 and is in his 3rd year as the ranking member on the Environment Committee. He also serves as president of the Diamond Park Homeowners Association and as a past state committeeperson to the Democrat Party. He is an alumnus of the Tempe Chamber of Commerce Leadership program in 2005. In 2004, Rep. Ableser received the City of Tempe Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Award for his work with the homeless and impoverished communities.
