Welcome to LD 4

Arizona Legislative District 4 (LD4) DemocratsMy hope is that we can increase our party's membership, enthusiasm, and influence in Arizona Legislative District 4. We must do this by bringing in the young and old, the rich and poor, the short and tall, and so on -- the "people" referred to in the preamble to our Constitution. We have had good candidates in the past -- our job now is to elect good candidates in 2010.

Join us and be part of the solution. With your commitment, we can make our county, state, and country a better place through honest, ethical leadership choices. Please contact any one of us with questions, and come to our meetings -- we have fun while addressing the real needs in our district.

Jim McManus
Chair, AZ Legislative District 4 Democrats

Upcoming LD 4 Event Highlights

Join Arizona Legislative District 4 the third Thursday of every month at 6:00 PM for conversation and 6:30 PM for our meeting. Our monthly meetings are held at the Maricopa County Services Facility (12975 W Bell, Surprise; between Crossroads Shopping Center and the MVD; after RH Johnson and before Dysart -- see map).

Sam Wercinski, Candidate for Secretary of State, was our guest speaker at the LD 4 August meeting. Sam spent 17 years in the real estate industry and served as the Arizona Real Estate Commissioner under Governor Janet Napolitano.

Other Upcoming Speakers Include:

September - Arif Kazmi, candidate for Central Arizona Water Conservation District, will be our guest speaker. Arif is one of the first ever Arizona-licensed civil engineers with knowledge and experience of dams, water conservation, embankments, culverts, bridges, pipelines and siphons, to run for this office. This is a nonpartisan, county-wide position, so bring all your friends to learn more about the critical water issues in Maricopa County.

October - Penny Kotterman, candidate for Arizona Superintendent of Schools, will be our guest speaker.

November - Jason Williams, candidate for Arizona Superintendent of Schools, will be our guest speaker. Jason ran during the last election and came very close to defeating Tom Horne for that position.  Find out what Jason is doing now and how he proposes to change Arizona's education system.

LD 4 Mission

Our mission is one of multiple goals -- made difficult by the fact that Republican registration is more than twice that of the Democratic. Goals are:

  1. Elect Democrats to Arizona Legislative District 4's legislative seats.  Our candidates deserve admiration and support -- they have shown and are showing courage in an obviously uphill battle.
  2. Add our votes and support to those Democratic candidates running for higher offices in Arizona - whether state or county.

LD 4 Vision

Our vision is one of an Arizona Governor and Legislature endeavoring to improve the quality of life for all Arizona residents.  This means improved education, social services and high paying jobs.
