Registering to Vote in Maricopa County
Eligibility to Register to Vote
You are eligible to register to vote in Maricopa County if you meet all of the following criteria:
- You are a citizen of the United States.
- You will be 18 years of age or older before the date of the next general election (deadline: October 4, 2010, election; November 2, 2010).
- You are a resident of Arizona 29 days or more before the date of the next general election (deadline: October 4, 2010; election: November 2, 2010).
- You have not been convicted of a felony or treason, or if you were, your civil rights have been restored.
You cannot register to vote if either of the following is true:
- If you are not a citizen of the United States (permanent residents are not eligible to vote).
- If you have been adjudicated incompetent.
If you have been convicted of a felony, you may still be eligible to vote:
- One felony: You may re-register to vote after meeting all probationary requirements.
- More than one felony: You must petition the court for restoration of your civil rights. After your civil rights have been restored by the court, you may re-register to vote.
Acceptable Proof of Citizenship for Voter Registration
The state of Arizona will accept the following forms of identification with your voter registration application:
- a copy of a Arizona driver's license or non-operating identification license (issued after 10/2/1996).
- a copy of a driver's license or non-operating identification license from another state that identifies United States citizenship (only other state known to provide this is Hawaii).
- a copy of a birth certificate that verifies United States citizenship (the name on the birth certificate must match the name on the voter registration application).
- a copy of the pertinent pages of a United States passport.
- United States naturalization certificate number or the original certificate of naturalization.
- Bureau of Indian Affairs card number, Tribal Treaty card number, or Tribal enrollment number.
Updating Your Voter Registration
You should update your voter registration in Maricopa County if you meet any of the following criteria:
- You have moved since you last registered to vote.
- You have changed your name since you last registered to vote.
- You wish to change your party registration.

Registering to Vote
Two easy ways to register to vote:
- Complete a printed voter registration form and mail it to the Arizona Secretary of State along with the required proof of citizenship.
- Don't have a printer? Complete the form on the right-hand side of this page, and we'll mail a form to you today.
- Complete the online voter registration form and provide acceptable proof of citizenship.
You can obtain a printed voter registration form:
- by completing the form on the right-hand side of this page.
- at any elections office in Maricopa County, any City Clerk's office, or any Town Clerk's office.
- most libraries throughout Maricopa County.
- at all United States Post Offices in Arizona.
- at some banks and grocery stores.

Important note when registering to vote in Arizona: Because each voter must be assigned to a precinct, you must register using a physical, residential address. Although you may use a mailing address when you vote by mail, your voter registration cannot use a post office box or a commercial address (although you may use a mailing address to vote by mail).

Arizona has a Permanent Early Voting List (PEVL) that makes voting easier than ever.Once Secretary of State receives your PEVL sign-up form, the Maricopa County elections office will automatically mail a ballot to you every time you are eligible to vote in any election---local, state, or national.
The ballots are mailed 26 days before each election, giving you plenty of time to research candidates and ballot propositions and issues.
You'll never miss another election, and you can take your time filling out your ballot, researching candidates, looking up important issues, and gathering all of the information you need to vote without ever needing to leave home.
